I’m a 3rd year PhD candidate at the DSI-NRF Center of Excellence in Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (SACEMA) based at the Stellenbosch University.

My interests lie in formulating and using statistical and mathematical models to investigate the impact of interventions mounted in response to outbreaks/pandemics.

While I was working at SACEMA, James was working on his PhD. Every year, I taught an intensive 5-day short course called, “An Introduction to R: Data Management and Exploration”, and James was my Teaching Assistant (aka Tutor). Through those interactions, I learned that James excels at scientific programming in R, as well as explaining difficult concepts in programming and data management to students. In the time that i’ve known James, he has proven to be: reliable and cognisant of deadlines, approachable, an extremely effective communicator (to lay, as well as scientific audiences) in both written and spoken English, and an excellent scientist. On top of all this, he is an up and coming world-class epidemiological modeller.
